Miss Make Dioptra Quilt - Two Color Version
Well hello there! In celebration of the Dioptra pattern launching this week, I thought I would resurrect my long-dormant blog and tell you all about some of the samples. The first is Two Color version in the Crib/Small Throw size.
(Get the Dioptra pattern in the Miss Make Shop.)
At 49.5” square, the Crib/Small Throw size of Dioptra is the perfect size lap quilt for one, or a generously sized crib quilt. I was able to easily stuff this quilt into my suitcase on a recent trip to Ireland as well, so I can personally attest that it is just the right size for suitcase stuffing should the opportunity arise.
The Two Color version of Dioptra allows for two main star colors. In this sample I chose a dark cream for the Star 1 fabric - Ruby Star Society’s Speckled in Parchment - and a soft white for the Star 2 fabric. The background is a print by Alexia Abegg from First Light by Ruby Star Society. (Full fabric breakdown at end of post.)
The difference between Star 1 and Star 2 is that the Star 1 stars are all around the edge of the quilt, and the full stars connected to these edges stars. You’ll notice the brighter white stars - Star 2 fabric - do not connect to the edge stars.
For the backing, I was pleased to be able to use a long-stashed fabric by Sarah Watts. This very painterly print is from her Santa Fe collection, and I can’t believe how well the colors go with the quilt front. Serendipity!
I quilted this one myself with simple grid quilting along the seams and through the centers and quarters of the blocks.
